Sleep Disorders as References of Clinical Value in Contemporary Medical Practice

Abstract

Introduction: Sleep disorders are difficult to manage due to their varied and complex presentation. The timely identification from the scrutinization of its cardinal elements, with the use of the clinical method and the integration of knowledge by the basic work team avoids its underdiagnosis and provides the correct tools for prevention.

Objective: To substantiate the substantive processes inherent to sleep disorders.

Methods: Scientific articles were consulted in the period between September 2022 and September 2023. The sample was made up of 51 investigations published in various journals and indexed in the Google Scholar, PubMed and SciELO databases. The following keywords were used: sleep disorders, triggering factors, preventive and pharmacological treatment; in Spanish, Portuguese and English for the last five years.

Conclusions: The etiology, basic conceptualization and diagnostic guidelines for the early detection of sleep disorders are described; as well as the therapeutic lines that promote the patient's health.
