Abstract

Introduction: The World Health Organization defines extrapulmonary tuberculosis as the clinically diagnosed tuberculosis confirmed by bacteriological studies involving tissues and organs outside the lung parenchyma.

Objective: To describe the case of extrapulmonary tuberculosis in an adult.

Clinical case: A black male patient, 34 years old, was hospitalized five years ago at the General Hospital of Libreville, capital of Gaon, Africa, to corroborate the diagnosis of tuberculosis, which was not confirmed, referred by the patient, who did not provide any document about the admission. He was admitted due to an increase of volume in the lateral and posterior region of the neck of several months of evolution, referring pain in this area and frank yellow-grayish discharge, in addition to difficulty in communicating due to the inflammatory process in the neck and referred fever, which could not be confirmed.

Conclusions: This case shows that extrapulmonary tuberculosis, as a form of presentation, can be observed even without a history of previous pulmonary tuberculosis.
