COVID-19 and Intermediate Determinants of Health in the Pediatric Population, a Proposal of Variables
Keywords:

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic is a serious health problem, from several aspects. Children are not the ones who mainly transmit the virus in communities, but they can infect each other or transmit the disease to others.
Objective: To propose variables for the study of COVID-19 in the pediatric population according to four of the intermediate determinants of the World Health Organization's Social Determinants of Health Model.
Methods: A developmental study was carried out and a proposal of variables grouped in the intermediate determinants of health was presented: human biology, behavior, material circumstances and health system. The human biology determinant relate variables specific to the case, characterizing the individual or the disease. The material circumstances variable presented variables related to the in- and out-of-home environment surrounding the case, such as source of infection, contacts, area and municipality of residence. Variables of personal practices were incorporated as risk factors of the case; for example, those related to the use of masks and compliance with distancing. The health system determinant incorporated variables related to case management from detection to follow-up.
Conclusions: The grouping of variables for the study of pediatric cases of COVID 19 will allow a broader and more integrative analysis of the disease in this population group, with a view to perfecting prevention and control plans.
