Abstract

Introduction: COVID-19 is characterized by a high transmission rate, a prolonged incubation period, the presence of asymptomatic carriers or with mild symptoms, possible progression to respiratory distress syndrome and even death.

Objective: To describe the results of a community intervention to control an event of family transmission by COVID-19 in the municipality of Las Tunas.

Methods: A community intervention was carried out in the first ring third step of the “Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima” Polyclinic in the period from August 5 to September 28, 2020 where the aforementioned event was generated. Sociodemographic, clinical-epidemiological variables, epidemiological spider and the familiogram of confirmed patients were used. An epidemiological map is carried out, an investigation of vulnerable groups and criteria for closing the event were carried out.

Results: The event was closed with the epidemiological discharge of the last confirmed case (21 days after opening it), epidemiological discharge of the 73 notified contacts and no new confirmed cases identified by the investigation within the outbreak.

Conclusions: The event was controlled through a synergistic community intervention strategy and more flexible to the quarantine regime, in a short time and with a favorable evolution of the cases regardless of the risks present.
