Abstract

Introduction: The association between the different blood groups and the susceptibility in contagion, severity and mortality by COVID-19, is a topic in development and that has lead several researchers to analyze in recent months. Objective: to analyze the available evidence on this topic in the adult population.

Methods: A systematic review of published studies in scientific search engines was carried out: PubMed, Cochrane, Science direct, Medline, WHO COVID-19. Sixteen studies were identified, which were analyzed and completed using the COVIDENCE® platform. Eight articles for a total of 8 622 patients were included for the final analysis.

Conclusions: A strong association between blood group A and the probability of presenting COVID-19 is demonstrated, with type O blood being the least susceptible, however. The association with the severity and mortality from this disease is not clear, so there is a lack of more studies than cover this topic.
