Application of prevention levels in COVID-19 control

Abstract

Introduction: An essential element for the confrontation of COVID-19 is a preventive attitude, which must always be present in all health actions.

Objective: To analyze the measures for COVID-19 prevention and control based on prevention levels.

Methods: A bibliographic review was carried out, in search of scientific articles published in English and Spanish, in electronic format, available in the databases PubMed, Scopus, Medline, and SciELO, as well as in Google Scholar. An exploration was also carried out in national and international webpages. The quality, reliability and validity of the selected articles were analyzed, in order to carry out an adequate review. This allowed the study of 63 articles, of which 34 were referenced.

Development: The concept of prevention is reviewed, together with the different prevention levels, as well as examples are cited for each prevention level according to measures for COVID-19 prevention and control.

Conclusions: Health prevention activities in this pandemic are aimed at avoiding health alterations or complications of such alterations in the individual, the family and the community, by means of considering that the same action can be developed in different individuals and be part of different prevention levels.
