Abstract

Introduction: In a few months, with the appearance of COVID-19, a health concern of great magnitude has appeared worldwide, a situation that has taken away the lives of several thousand people and will remain in history as one of the biggest pandemics that we have suffered in the last hundred years.

Objectives: To characterize, clinically and epidemiologically, patients with COVID-19.

Methods: A prospective, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in patients with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 treated in Regla Municipality, Havana Province, during the period from April 1, 2020 to June 30, 2020.

Results: 31 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 were studied. There was a predominance of the male sex (54.8%), patients older than 60 years (32.3%), asymptomatic (61.3%), and from Guaicanamar Popular Council (45.2%). The main source of infection was contact in the workplace (54.8%). Among the patients with symptoms, fever predominated (38.7%), while 96.8% of the patients treated achieved recovery.

Conclusions: COVID-19 is a highly transmissible disease, in which the source of infection in the workplace was decisive. There was a predominance of patients from the popular council of Guaicanamar, of the male sex, adults and aged over 60 years, asymptomatic, and with high recovery rate. Active screening of cases allowed early diagnosis and individualized timely treatment for achieving recovery of the patients and preventing complications.
