Educational Intervention in Primary Care Physicians on Coronary Reperfusion in Acute Myocardial Infarction

Introduction: The knowledge of physicians working at the primary care level about coronary reperfusion in ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction is of extraordinary importance to reduce complications and mortality.
Objective: To demonstrate the effectiveness of an educational intervention to meet the learning needs of primary care physicians on coronary reperfusion in acute myocardial infarction.
Methods: A non-observational, quasi-experimental, before-after study without a control group and educational intervention was carried out in the period since January 2021 to December 2022, to determine the learning needs about coronary reperfusion in patients with ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction, of physicians working in emergency polyclinics in the municipality of Santiago de Cuba, located in villages outside the perimeter of the city; as well as raising the level of knowledge of these professionals with the application of an educational intervention.
Results: Of the total number of professionals surveyed, only 4.1% were able to answer the questionnaire adequately before the educational intervention, increasing to 100% after it.
Conclusions: The educational intervention was effective in meeting the learning needs of primary care physicians about coronary reperfusion in acute myocardial infarction.
