Abstract

Introduction: atherosclerosis is a disease of multifactorial origin with great genetic and family dependence, susceptible to aggravation depending on the lifestyle and the influence that the environment exerts on the person.

Objective: determine the influence of contextual factors on the appearance of risk factors and diseases resulting from atherosclerosis.

Method: a cross-sectional analytical study was carried out in the Family Doctor and Nurse's Office number 5 of the Lawton Health Area during the period from January 2022 to March 2023. Absolute and relative frequencies were calculated. To determine the influence of contextual factors, Canonical Correlation Analysis was applied.

Results: The main risk factor for this disease was dyslipidemia, both among the individuals studied and among their relatives; cardiovascular diseases were the most common disease resulting from atherosclerosis in the patients studied. The canonical correlation analysis was 0.732 and the value of this squared correlation was 0.536. This value explains up to 53.6% of the variability in risk factors and consequent diseases.

Conclusions: There is an influence of contextual factors on the presence of risk factors and diseases resulting from atherosclerosis. The set of contextual factors partially explains the variability in risk factors and consequent diseases of atherosclerosis.
