Abstract

Introduction: Cardiovascular risk estimation involves the likelihood of developing a cardiovascular disease within a specified period, as well as negative emotions such as anxiety, depression, and stress, which may be related to the development of heart diseases impacting health and are one of the leading causes of premature death.

Objective: To associate the level of cardiovascular risk and emotional well-being in patients aged 40 to 74, belonging to the Calera - Cotacachi community, August - December 2023.

Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using the Globorisk calculator to assess the level of cardiovascular risk, and the DASS 21 instrument determined stress, anxiety, and depression in the Calera community, during the period from August to December 2023. The Chi-square test was used for the association of categorical variables with a confidence interval of 95% and a p-value <0.05.

Results: 137 patients aged 40 to 74 participated, showing a high prevalence of moderate and high cardiovascular risk, with 54% and 45.3% respectively. Although the study reflected that most patients had normal levels of depression, stress, and anxiety, a percentage showed mild depression (32.1%), moderate stress (25.5%), and severe anxiety (25.5%).

Conclusions: It was determined that there is no statistically significant association between the estimated moderate and high cardiovascular risk levels in patients from the Calera community and their diagnosis of anxiety, depression, and stress.
