Abstract

Introduction: Disability care is an unfinished agenda in the world's health systems. Approximately 15% of the world's population has some disability, which constitutes a public health problem due to its social connotations and backwardness.

Objective: To analyze the perspective of the family practitioner in relation to disability and inclusion in a Social Security family medical unit in Tabasco, Mexico.

Methods: A qualitative phenomenological study was carried out, with an interpretive approach in 28 family practitioner who provide medical care. We worked in three focus groups in both shifts. To analyze the data, the ATLAS-ti V-2023 program was used for the construction, naming and definition of categories, selection of units of analysis, assignment of codes, relationship of codes and creation of networks. After this, it was possible to describe the reality of inclusion and disability as experienced by family practitioners.

Results: The perspectives indicate that there is a lack of knowledge among family practitioner to care for people with disabilities, as well as the lack of a structural design in the medical unit to provide accessibility and inclusion. They expressed that there are still prejudices, discrimination and stigma in care. They agreed that empathy is the key to providing an impartial consultation and they talk about the importance of being accessible and compassionate.

Conclusions: The results of this study show the need to apply inclusion strategies that guarantee dignified and quality care for this important population group.
